Short visit to Cayman Brac | Sister Island | Bucket List

 Hola Amigos!

We all know how pandemic impacted our travel plans last year and continues to do so even today. We were also highly affected by this, but somehow got lucky as we had a place to visit which was in our bucket list. This February, we went to Cayman Brac to celebrate Valentine's Day as it was the safest and nearest place to visit in a short span of time. It was the best decision we ever made. It was very refreshing to board the plane after so long and see a new place, interact with new people and have no fear of getting affected by Covid as Cayman Brac was Covid free. We didn't take long to decide and immediately booked our travel.

We used Airbnb app to shortlist the hotel and confirmed our stay at Bubble house. The dome shaped structure of this rental property and sea facing view were the main attraction for us. We got in touch with the manager Mr. Jonathan who was very kind and helpful to us. Apart from giving us the room with a view , he also helped us with rental car for just $30 per day.

BUBBLE HOUSE

We started from Grand Cayman Airport on Saturday Morning and it took us barely 30 minutes including the security check ins and checkouts to land at Cayman Brac airport . Mr. Jonathan already parked the car for us in the airport parking lot, and we used google maps to reach Bubble house. It was pretty easy navigating Cayman Brac as it is very small Island . After sometime, we didn't even feel the need to use Google maps!

On reaching Bubble house, we entered our cute apartment. I found it spick and span. It had a kitchen , living room , full bath and bedroom. It came with basic amenities like pots and pans in kitchen, toiletries in bathroom, bedding essentials etc.

Since we reached during the breakfast time, we were quite hungry. We quickly left our apartment looking for a restaurant. We found one really good place to eat called Star Island Restaurant. It had wide range of dishes and great service. It had friendly staff. It must be quite famous because tables were almost full and lot of people were coming there.

After finishing breakfast, we planned to visit caves first. Cayman Brac is quite famous for its caves which date back to thousands of years. Out of many famous caves, we covered Bat Cave, Peter's Cave, Great Cave and Rebecca's cave. We covered Bat cave and Rebecca's cave on Saturday. Our experience of Bat Cave was bit scary as we are generally quite scared of bats. But we still managed and there were fellow tourists so we felt bit safe. Bats didn't harm anyone. Rebecca's cave was also good and there is a story about this little girl Rebecca mounted outside the cave which is a must read if you visit it.

On same day, we went to Cayman Brac Beach Resort for having lunch. It is a beautiful place to stay specially if your kids are also on this trip. They have a large pool , many table games and family feel. Right outside the resort, there is a small lake which is very peaceful . One can drive past the Cayman Brac Beach resort and reach west end of the island. We were lucky to catch the sunset view !

Next day, we went to Le Soleil d'Or to have their farm to table breakfast, but unfortunately they told they serve it only to their guests. They were kind enough to serve breakfast to us next day on demand, but we had to leave the same evening so we didn't place any order. It is also a beautiful place to stay.

Next, we headed towards bluff! It was such a wonderful adventurous ride to reach Bluff. I enjoyed the roads and scenery. It was very different from Grand Cayman. We reached the Lighthouse first. After that we have to walk a little and find that spot from where you can see the ocean. This rocky mountain will give you a kick that you need on this trip. The wind speed is unbeatable and the jaw dropping view is one of its kind. This place is a must-visit.

CAYMAN BRAC LIGHTHOUSE

Post this adventure, we went to the souvenir shop as our trip was about to end and we were supposed to catch the flight in few hours. We heard a lot about this shop called NIM things. We went there and met Tenson Scott. He is a story-teller and we listened to wonderful stories and culture of Brac for couple of hours. Make sure you have sufficient time if you plan to visit this store. It's worth a visit! On the way, we visited Pioneer Bakery which is quite old and famous.

Other tourist attractions include Seaman's and Veteran's Memorial which lists the names of all brave men who served their nation and salt water pond lake hike which starts at Rebecca's Cave.

This short trip to Cayman Brac will always remain special as it is filled with simple and sweet memories. We had lots of fun and now we know almost every road of Cayman Brac.
