Cayman Islands Turtle Center | Budget friendly | Kid friendly Excursion
Hola Amigos!
The turtle on the
National Flag of Cayman Islands cannot go unnoticed by anyone! Therefore, I
thought of visiting the Cayman Turtle Center that I count as one of the most
exciting and affordable trips I have taken in the Cayman Islands so far.
We went on a public
holiday and got one ticket for 7 USD.
Being residents, we
are eligible for such discounts. For other nationals, it could have been just a
bit more.
As soon as we reached
the place, we took out the camera and started taking pictures as the place
and the weather was unexpectedly
favorable. There is a souvenir shop at the main entrance where
you can buy swimsuits, T-shirts, footwear, and other items too. The ticket
counter is also located inside the shop. We took our bands and entered the
world of turtles!
There was a large pond
where huge turtles were swimming and making heavy sounds while breathing
(loggerheads I suppose). I had never seen this creature in this large size so I
got excited like a kid in the candy shop! There were many such ponds where they
kept the turtles based on their sizes and breeds. It was exciting to see how
turtles swim backward and fight with each other. There was a guide who would
tell you about the historical facts and figures but being honest I was busy
playing with the turtles. There was a special pond where you can get inside and
interact with these creatures only after sanitizing your hands. This was exciting
for us and we spent a good amount of time here.
Turtle center has an Aviary
too, which was totally surprising. It was a value add to our trip! We entered
this medium size aviary and fed the pigeons and parrots. My happiness
multi-folded after spotting a scarlet Ibis there and it was so engaging and
fearless. It gave me a few good shots!
After exploring, we
needed some action and what could have been
better than snorkeling
with turtles and seeing colorful fishes going around! The snorkel shop provided
the free snorkeling gear and a life jacket. This was the time when we started
feeling real fun. We got into the water and saw the marine life so closely. I
wish I could capture the aquatics but unfortunately, I didn't take my phone
along!
Since it was a public
holiday (National Heroes Day), there was a special DJ arrangement near the
swimming pool. By the time we finished snorkeling it was already dusk. Water,
music and evening is such a relaxing combination that we couldn't stop but
indulge! After 10 rounds of splash ride and a lot of dance moves in the
water, we called it a day!
The facilities at the
Turtle Center are also amazing. The
washroom was spick and
span. They even have their indoor restaurant for the unsatiated tummies.
Altogether, we were lucky enough to experience it all.
